On this day, devotees worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with rituals, observe fasts, and pray for happiness, prosperity, good health, fulfillment of desires, and marital bliss.

Importance of the first Monday of Sawan

According to religious belief, worshipping Lord Shiva during the month of Sawan quickly pleases him. It was during this period that Lord Shiva drank the poison “Halahal” that emerged during the churning of the ocean. Therefore, the gods offered him water to soothe his body’s heat. Since then, the tradition of offering water and Ganga water to the Shivalinga during the month of Sawan has continued.

The first Monday of Sawan is considered an occasion for new beginnings, positive energy and receiving special blessings of Lord Shiva.
